Despeckle (Standard)

This image enhancement removes unwanted marks (e.g., dots or stray pixels) from scanned documents.

ClosedShow me an example.

Tip:To remove marks touching the content of an image, use the Smooth enhancement's Sand And Fill feature.

Using Despeckle

  1. Select the Image Processing node in the Scanning Explorer Pane.
  2. Select Despeckle in the Document Properties Pane.
  3. In the configuration wizard, specify the Closedpages this enhancement will be applied to.
  4. Click Next: Speckle Size.
  5. Specify a ClosedNoise Level to configure the maximum size of the noise to be removed. Size is specified as both width and height. For example, setting this option to 2 will remove all noise that is equal to or smaller than a 2 pixel x 2 pixel square.
  6. Select Next: Character Protection.
  7. Optional: Enable ClosedCharacter Protection to prevent valid characters (e.g., commas and colons) from being removed.

    Note: Speckles that are adjacent to valid characters will not be removed.

  8. Click Finish.

  9. Optional: To preview how this enhancement will affect scanned images, select Test Process.

    Tip: For the best results, add a custom sample image before testing.
